Wholesale Teak Furniture Indonesia
Why Teak Wholesale Economics Are Weight-Led
Where woven goods fill a container by volume, solid teak fills it by weight. A forty-foot container will reach its payload limit with dense hardwood long before the space is used, and the practical planning question becomes tonnage rather than cubic metres.
This changes several things. Freight cost per unit is more predictable than in bulky categories, because dense goods use freight efficiently. Loading has to be planned so that weight is distributed rather than concentrated. And there is real value in combining a teak order with lighter goods, since a mixed load can approach both the volume and the weight ceiling instead of hitting one and wasting the other.
The more significant number, though, is capital. A single container of solid teak dining furniture can represent a substantial working-capital commitment sitting in a warehouse for months. Buyers new to the category consistently underestimate the holding cost and overestimate how quickly high-ticket pieces turn. We would rather discuss that honestly at the first order than watch an account overcommit on stock it cannot move.

Plantation, Reclaimed and What Each Means at Resale
Indonesian teak reaching the wholesale market comes from two broad sources, and the distinction is a genuine selling point rather than a technicality.
Plantation teak is grown under managed forestry, harvested at maturity and replanted. It gives consistent grain, predictable dimensions and reliable availability — the right basis for a catalogue a retailer intends to reorder from.
Reclaimed teak comes from dismantled buildings, boats and old structures. Timber that has already spent decades in service is exceptionally stable, carries visible history in nail holes and weathering, and cannot be reproduced exactly. It sells on character and sustainability narrative, but no two pieces match and continuity of supply cannot be guaranteed — which makes it a range statement rather than a core line.
Suar and other Indonesian hardwoods sit alongside both and are frequently the better commercial answer for indoor pieces at a lower price point. A wholesale assortment built entirely from teak is usually leaving margin on the table. Our guide to Indonesian furniture styles and materials covers the alternatives.
Pricing, Benchmarking and What a Low Quotation Means
Buyers comparing Indonesian teak quotations routinely find spreads of two or three times on apparently identical pieces. The spread is almost never arbitrary.
A materially lower price usually reflects one or more of: a lower timber grade, thinner section sizes, air drying where kiln drying was assumed, simplified joinery, finger-jointed or laminated components in place of solid boards, or a finish that conceals rather than protects. Each is a legitimate product in its own market position. None of them are the same product.
Before benchmarking a quotation, fix the specification: grade, board thickness, joint type, drying method, moisture content at packing and finish. Quotations compared against a fixed specification are informative. Quotations compared against a photograph are not. Each of these variables and what it costs is set out in our note on how teak furniture is manufactured.
We will tell you what has probably been changed if you send us a quotation that looks unusually low, and we would rather lose an order on an honest comparison than win one on a specification the buyer misread.
Timber Legality and Import Compliance
Teak carries a compliance dimension that woven and synthetic goods do not. Indonesia operates a timber legality assurance system, and the major importing markets place a due-diligence obligation on the importer to establish that timber products entering their market were legally harvested.
For a wholesale buyer, this is not paperwork to be handled at the port. It is a due-diligence system your business is expected to operate: knowing your supplier, holding documentation on the origin of the timber, and being able to produce it if asked. Enforcement varies by market and has generally tightened rather than relaxed.
We supply teak from legal, traceable sources with the accompanying documentation, together with certificates of origin, fumigation and phytosanitary paperwork. Buyers importing Indonesian timber furniture for the first time should build the documentation review into their timeline and discuss classification with their customs broker before ordering, since tariff treatment of wooden furniture varies by destination and by product category.
Which Teak Categories Turn Over at Retail
Teak sells differently from lighter furniture categories, and assortment planning should reflect that.
Dining tables are the anchor. They are the reason customers seek out solid teak, they carry the strongest margin, and they photograph well enough to drive traffic to everything else. They are also the slowest to turn and the most expensive to hold.
Benches and dining seating attach to table sales and lift average order value substantially. Retailers who stock tables without matching seating leave money on the counter.
Coffee and side tables turn faster at lower value and are the practical volume driver in most teak assortments.
Storage and case goods — consoles, sideboards, cabinets — sell steadily but ship heavily and tie up considerable capital per unit.
Outdoor teak is seasonal in temperate markets and near-constant in warm ones, which makes it a different buying pattern entirely depending on where you sell.
Three models show the spread. The Cross Leg Dining Table is a robust rectangular anchor piece. The Kentana Round Table serves the round-top demand that rectangular-heavy assortments usually under-serve. The Modena Bench is the attach-sale piece that converts a table enquiry into a set.
Current ranges relevant to wholesale buyers include our solid wood furniture sets, teak sofas and luxury teak pieces.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order for wholesale teak?
We work to order value and depth per model rather than to a unit floor. Because teak ties up more capital per cubic metre than anything else we ship, we would rather size a first order to what you can realistically turn than to what fills a container. Part-container orders are consolidated with other shipments to the same region.
Should I order kiln-dried or air-dried teak for resale?
Kiln-dried for temperate markets with heated or air-conditioned interiors. Air-dried is acceptable for humid tropical destinations. Selling air-dried stock into a cold-climate market is a reliable source of warranty claims.
How do I verify grade on arrival?
Inspect end grain and the underside of tops rather than finished faces. Sapwood is visibly paler and softer. Check moisture content with a meter on receipt and record it, since it establishes the condition on arrival if a dispute follows.
Can I combine teak with lighter goods in one container?
Yes, and it is generally the more efficient load, since dense timber and bulky woven goods together use both the weight and the volume capacity. Most mixed loads pair this range with wholesale rattan.
What documentation accompanies a timber shipment?
Commercial invoice, packing list with weights and dimensions, certificate of origin where required, timber legality documentation, and fumigation and phytosanitary certificates as required by your destination.
Do you supply reclaimed teak at wholesale?
Yes, within availability. Reclaimed stock cannot be guaranteed for continuity or matched across orders, so we recommend treating it as a character range rather than as a reorderable core line.
How long does a wholesale teak order take?
Production time depends on quantity and complexity, followed by ocean freight to your destination. We give a realistic date at confirmation and report slippage early rather than at the point of shipment.
Grade Verification as a Wholesale Risk
Retailers reselling teak inherit the grade risk from their supplier. If a container of tables described as Grade A turns out to contain significant sapwood, the complaints arrive at your business, not at the workshop in Indonesia — and they arrive eighteen months later, after the timber has moved and split, when the commercial relationship with the supplier may already be over.
Grade A is mature heartwood: dense, uniformly golden-brown, high in the natural oils and silica that give teak its durability. Grade B is outer heartwood — lighter, patchier, less oily. Grade C is sapwood, soft and pale. All three can be stained and finished to look nearly identical on delivery day, and none of them announce themselves in a photograph.
For wholesale buyers, three protections matter. Specify grade explicitly on the purchase order rather than relying on a catalogue adjective. Require photographs of raw end grain, not of finished surfaces, since finish conceals species and grade while end grain does not. And require a stated moisture content at packing, because timber shipped wet will move in your customers' homes regardless of grade.
We state grade, drying method and moisture content on every wholesale order, and we photograph goods before container loading so you approve the actual shipment. The verification process behind that sits on our teak supply page. Our explanation of why teak holds its value is useful material for retailers explaining the price difference to their own customers.
Placing a Wholesale Teak Order
To quote we need models and quantities, destination, preferred incoterms and target arrival window. If you are still building an assortment, tell us your market and price positioning and we will propose a selection weighted toward the pieces that actually turn over rather than the ones that photograph best.
Our Indonesian wood furniture wholesale page covers the broader timber offer, teak furniture currently available shows the range, and how teak brands differ is useful positioning material for retail. Read the ordering sequence, then tell us the models and volumes you want quoted.
